ISTDP Core Training

The inspiration for this training programme came from the work of David Malan who had a dream of making ISTDP widely available through the NHS.

We offer an IEDTA accredited three-year core training  programme based in Exeter in the South-West. The programme curriculum is designed to enable clinicians to develop their understanding of the theory and practice of ISTDP and to be effective in applying this to individual work and in complex public healthcare settings.

This is a small group training delivered in the peaceful setting of the University of Exeter. There will be five face-to-face teaching blocks of two days per year. We use a competency-based approach with an emphasis on establishing clinical understanding and effective therapeutic practice. Trainees will be required to bring video recordings of therapy cases and will receive live supervision. There will be careful attention to individual and group processes to support the learning experience.

Trainees will also be invited to attend the ISTDP Health Seminar Series which offers three additional 90-minute online teaching sessions a year and an annual in-person ISTDP Health Day Conference.
